Sami Tipi, the event Tipi hire company recently purchased a selection of Lyte Ladders from Ladderstore to help provide safe and secure access whilst working at height.
"Here at Sami Tipi, we provide stunning tipis for all kinds of events. Our tipis create the most atmospheric event space like no other event venue. The tipis are large wooden structures with poles over 8 metres in length so we needed large extension ladders that would provide access to the tipi apex and keep us safe and secure whilst working at height. We also needed platform ladders for attaching cross poles, strapping the canvas and installing lighting and electrics" said Craig Bidder, Director at Sami Tipi Ltd.

You should NEVER stand on the frames of a tower when assembling and dismantling, as you are at risk of slipping and falling!
The Burwell Windmill is currently being restored by the team at Burwell Museum. A Ladderstore ladder has provided safe and easy access to the top of the mill.
"We needed a ladder to provide safe and easy access to the cap of the windmill we are restoring. As the cap is curved, we needed a bent ladder to suit. Those who have used it so far have been very pleased with how much easier it makes working on the top of the mill" said Colin Marshall of Burwell Museum & Windmill.
British Athletics recently purchased a Zarges Industrial Skymaster Ladder from Ladderstore to help provide High Speed Internet at the London Anniversary Games at Horse Guards Parade.
"The Zarges Industrial Skymaster Ladder was purchased to help with our IT provision at the London Anniversary Games at Horseguards Parade on 19th / 20th July. The problem we had was how to install a high bandwidth antenna array onto a scaffolding pole on top of a site cabin on Horse Guards Parade where we were not allowed to use hydraulic lifting equipment or a cherry picker. The array provisioned the entire event with high speed internet connection across the site and enabled us to provide wireless internet to contractors and staff including Ticket Master, photographers and journalists" said Barry Morse, Senior Infrastructure Consultant at UK Athletics.
We were recently approached by Manx Sound who specialise in PA systems for outdoor events. On this occasion, the Isle of Man Tynwald Day ceremony. They needed a ladder which would allow them to work on even ground and reach heights over 5 metres. The Youngman Transforma 4 Mode Ladder System was the solution.
"The Transforma has solved a particular problem - uneven ground where we install loudspeakers onto flagpoles each year for the Isle of Man Government's Tynwald Day ceremony. It's 5 metre length was also useful for the odd higher speaker" said Mark at Manx Sound.
One of the bespoke products we sell at Ladderstore is designed to provide easy access to roof areas. We recently worked with Messenger Construction to enable access to a prestigious residence.
"Access was required to all areas of the various roof slopes, flat leaded areas and raised roofs, including towers. This meant we had to be able to pass over other roofs safely without damaging the slates" said Brian Hembrow of Messenger Construction.
Messenger Construction is run by a team of highly experienced construction professionals with a wealth of knowledge in both sympathetic conservation and restoration projects. They also construct innovative new buildings within historic settings.
"Microlite stand-off used for roof painting job in Switzerland. Very steep roof where stabiliser used to enable ladder to be kept close to the work surface for painting/stability. The Microlite stand-off perfect for rolling the ladder up the tiles without causing damage. Light weight makes erecting and taking down ladders much easier. Great product, durable and safe." Roger
Ladderstore sells a huge range of ladders, both big and small. In this case we were contacted by Sue at Ermine Court for a simple solution to help retirement home residents get on a minibus.
"I was looking for a small set of easily collapsible steps, without any form of handrail, to enable the home owners to get into and out of a mini bus. The steps needed to be sturdy and ‘non slip’ as they would be used by elderly people who’s mobility, in many cases, is restricted. The steps travel in the mini bus for use at the ‘other end’, hence the need for easily collapsible" says Sue, House Manager at McCarthy and Stone's Ermine Court.
"The Hailo Mini Folding 2 Steps from Ladderstore fitted the criteria at a good price".
1. Avoid standing on the top step - unless a platform is provided for this purpose, the top step of a swingback step ladder should not be stood on.
2. Never use step ladders near electricity - make sure your ladders are not positioned anywhere near electrical cables or sources. Aluminium step ladders conduct electricity. Use fibreglass (GRP) step ladders if you work in electrical areas.
3. Do not lean from step ladders - 3 points of contact (two feet and a hand) must be made with your ladder. Move your step ladder closer to where you are working to prevent leaning.
4. Always use step ladders on a firm surface - ensure the ground you are working on will not suddenly sink. If you're not sure, use a ladder stabiliser accessory to prevent slipping.
5. Avoid using step ladders in bad weather - try to avoid using step ladders outside in bad weather. The risk of falling or slipping is much greater.
Henry Todd the Veteran Mountaineer and Himalayan Expedition Leader came to Ladderstore when he needed to source 100 extra strong ladders to ship out to Nepal.
The lightweight, class 1 aluminium single section ladders are used by mountain climbers to cross crevasses to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Climbers set the ladders up in the treacherous part of the climb called the Khumbu Icefall. The glacier is the final party of the trail to and from Everest Base Camp and it is one of the key routes for climbing the South Col route that takes you to the summit of Mount Everest.
I am always keen to complete customer satisfaction surveys as and when my suppliers request. I do not hold back nor guild the lily as I believe that would be counterproductive and serve no useful purpose.
The ladders were bought as part of our general warehouse equipment needs as they were deemed necessary to allow for occasional housekeeping duties. They will have light use over time but it is always handy to have them on site, just in case.

When one business owner wanted to apply graphics to the roof of a van, he turned to Ladderstore for a helping hand.
“We won a contract to apply graphic wraps to the entire Kwik Fit fleet of mobile tyre fitting vans nationwide,” explained Matthew Evans, Managing Director of Leading Edge Creative Design and Display, based in West Yorkshire.
“The client was looking for something a little different so we suggested designing and fitting a vinyl wrap design to the roof. Many clients miss this additional branding opportunity but the roof of a van is seen more often than you may think – from a distance on motorways, when parked in set down locations like retail parks or from the upper floors of offices, for example.”
However, accessing the roof of a vehicle to undertake this time-consuming task could not be achieved easily.
We were recently contacted by Mr Mitchell who wanted an easy way to access his mezzanine level gym area. Our Rolling Library Ladder was the ideal solution.
Mr Mitchell wanted a ladder solution that wouldn't block the lower games room when not in use, so the Rolling Library Ladder was ideal as it could slide back to the side of the room when not in use.
The key to the Rolling Library Ladder's versatility is the innovative, precision engineered and anodised, alloy track and captive trolley system. The ladder is attached to the trolley chassis and can then smoothly run up and down the length of the track and positioned by simply lifting and pushing the ladder to the required point. The trolley chassis runs on industrial nylon bearings for a smoother operation that is maintenance free once installed.
We were recently contacted by Mike Dewhurst at Horwich Evangelical Church who needed a ladder to be able to reach the tallest parts of the ceiling inside the church. Taylor, one of our working at height experts provided Mike with the perfect affordable solution.
As a member of the church, Mike regularly helps with general maintenance and repairs such as changing bulbs in the ceiling, painting and generally maintaining the higher parts of the church that are difficult to access.
Taylor suggested to Mike that the Zarges Skymaster would be perfect for his requirements as it would allow access to the light fittings at the highest points as a free-standing extendable A frame ladder, whilst also being capable of being used in six different configurations for a variety of other tasks. No excuses for not painting the ceiling now!

Ladderstore recently attended the HSE & WWT Mock Trial at St George's Hall Law Courts in Liverpool which highlighted the legal consequences of a fall from height.
The event simulated the legal consequences of an employer neglecting their duty of care to an employee after a fall from height from a mobile access tower. Although some effort was made on the employer's part, the jury found in favour of the employee. The employer could not demonstrate that it had provided (beyond what is reasonably practicable) a safe working environment and received a fine of £60,000 plus £35,000. A stark warning to anyone potentially facing this issue in the real world!
If you would like to discuss 'duty of care' requirements for your employees when working at height, please call our team on 01204 590 232 or visit ladderstore.com where you can find information about working at height training, best practice and more.

Werner always aims to deliver the right ladder for any working at height task which is why when pictures were published of photographers stationed outside St Mary’s hospital awaiting the arrival of the Duchess of Cambridge using products not fit for purpose, Werner jumped at the opportunity to spread our safe ladder use message.
Photographers were offered the chance to upgrade their existing aluminium products to Werner’s Fibreglass Swingback Stepladder and Lock-In Accessories. Aimed at the trade and professional user, the ladder is not only non-conductive; and therefore ideal for working around electricity, but it also features Werner’s patented Holster Top which accommodates the unique Werner® Lock-In accessory system. These clever accessories; which allow users to match their ladder to the task in hand, expand the work surface available to users, provide a means of safely securing tools and equipment and reduce the number of trips required up and down a ladder.
The feedback from the photographers has been overwhelmingly positive; The Times photographer Richard Pohle proclaimed the ladders “Superb”, and fully supports Werner’s drive to promote Fibreglass, a material which already accounts for over 50% of the US ladder market, to the discerning ladder user in all UK trade markets.

Buying a new loft ladder but not sure which type you need or what you need to measure to buy the right one? Try our Loft Ladder Measuring Up guide.
There are basically two types of loft ladders - 'Folding' loft ladders and 'Sliding' or 'Concertina' style ladders, including the telescopic loft ladder range. When you are measuring up for your new loft ladders you need to make a few 'key' measurements, but bear in mind some of these are slightly different depending on which type of ladder you want to buy. We have set out to show you the main measurements above and in a bit more detail below including how to measure them accurately. If you need any help please call us on 01204 590 232.
Citylink wanted a bespoke mobile platform with two separate levels complete with gated access to assist operatives when loading and offloading equipment from vehicles. Ladderstore provided a suitable solution.
It’s an old adage but you really do get what you pay for. Anyone buying a ladder designed for DIY’ers because it is cheaper will probably find that it won’t last the course if used regularly.
Why? Because whoever manufactured it had to meet certain guidelines that did not include either regular use or any user weight of over 95kg – and that’s total weight including tools, equipment and materials.
So, if the person using the ladder (plus everything they are carrying) is over 14st 13lbs, and using their ladder more than occasionally, they are using the wrong ladder.
Not bothered? Can’t see that it makes any difference? Well it really does, because the classifications relate to their safe working load. And of course safety should be paramount to any company buying ladders for its personnel or indeed for personal use. Use a ladder outside of the parameters for which it has been designed and built and you are dicing with death – possibly even literally.
When Lee Wall the Contracts Manager for Historic Property Restoration Ltd was looking for a permanent roof access ladder for use on the roof of Aydon Castle near Corbridge in Northumberland he was given details of Ladderstore by a colleague at English Heritage who had worked closely with Ladderstore previously on an access solution for another Historic Building.

Getting the right loft ladder, checking all the measurements and getting it safely delivered to your home is just the first part of what can be a tricky project.
Unfortunately many customers wrongly assume that most loft ladders will fit into most people's loft hatches and that installing a loft ladder is akin to assembling flat pack furniture.
