At Ladderstore, we’re always looking for ways to make ladder inspections smarter, safer, and more sustainable. Recently, while unloading a shipment of our ladder log holders, we realised there had to be a better way to comply with the Working at Height Regulations of 2005 whist also reducing plastic usage in our products.
This realisation sparked a brainstorming session, and our team came up with a new tag design that eliminates the need for a plastic holder. The concept was simple: create a tag that could be attached securely with cable ties, reducing plastic waste without compromising functionality.
Customer Collaboration
Once the prototype was ready, we reached out to several of our customers who had used our existing tags and asked them to trial the new design. Their feedback was invaluable. One customer commented that the tags were “much easier without the added plastic holder as the tag itself has no way to move” and appreciated that securing both top and bottom with cable ties made them more reliable during transport. Another highlighted that the new tags stayed firmly in place, giving peace of mind that inspections wouldn’t be compromised. At the same time, customers helped us refine the design by suggesting that the holes be moved slightly inward to prevent tearing, and we made then purchased reusable cable ties to ensure the tags were easy to turn over should an inspection fail.
Sustainable and Practical:
The result is a tag that maintains all the benefits of our original design while reducing plastic consumption. For every quantity of 500 tags used without a plastic holder it saves 15kg of plastic, making it a small but meaningful step toward greener operations.
