DO LADDERS NEED TO BE INSPECTED?

Yes, ladders need be inspected on a regular basis to ensure they are safe for use. This means carrying out pre-checks before each use and a more detailed inspection every 3 to 6 months. Detailed inspections should be logged and made available to a health and safety professional should they request them.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO INSPECT LADDERS?

There are two types of inspection when it comes to ladders. The first one is pre-checks which should be completed before every use. A pre-check consists of checking for obvious signs of damage which could have occurred during storage or transport. The second check is a more detailed inspection which is logged and recorded, a Ladder Association training course will show a person is competent to carry out these inspections if you are wanting to complete these in house, alternatively we can come to site and do this for you.

WHAT DO I NEED TO LOOK FOR WHEN INSPECTING A LADDER?

When inspecting a ladder, it's important to look for any issues that could result in harm, for example bent rungs could cause harm or missing feet increase the chances of a slip occurring. Identifying the condition of ladder is a significant factor when working at height. It should be the right equipment for the job and also be safe for use with no damages. If a damage is identified do not use the equipment.
