At Ladderstore we are a committed Disability Confident Employer and as July was Disability Awareness Month, we sat down with one of our employees to discuss what they like about working at Ladderstore and how this has helped them since they have been here:
Tell everyone about yourself:
My name is Amy, I am 32 years old and I have learning disabilities and autism. In my spare time I enjoy going to the Octagon Theatre Group and the New Destiny Social Club, which makes me happy.
How long have you worked at Ladderstore?
I have worked at Ladderstore for 16 years. I started here when I was 16 years old, it was my first job after school, and I love it so much that I have been here ever since! I am looking forward to my 20-year anniversary here at Ladderstore. I am the second longest serving employee here, Jacky Hopps I am coming for your record!!!
What is your main job at Ladderstore?
I am the Ladderlog assistant here at Ladderstore. This mainly involves preparing sample packs and Ladderlog business packs, so that customers can keep themselves safe when working at height by tagging their ladders.
What different things have you done during your 16 years at Ladderstore?
I also work closely with the marketing team to prepare materials to go out to customers when we have promotions on. I am also involved in sending out our catalogue to customers. When we send out marketing materials that have Haribo in, I might even sneak a packet for myself!!
What do you enjoy the most about working at Ladderstore and how does it help you?
We are all like a family and we get on well with each other and support each other in the work that we do. I enjoy the teambuilding sessions we have as we get to interact with each other in different settings and see other sides of people’s personalities.
Working here has helped improve my confidence, my communication skills, and it has also helped my timekeeping (as I have to be here on time to start work). It has also helped my independence in terms of travel as I get to and from work on my own using public transport.
What is your proudest achievement working at Ladderstore?
I feel proudest when making the business packs because I was able to learn a new skill. I also get to see the benefit of these products going out to customers to make sure they are kept safe when working at height.
Is there anything else you want to add?
I am the Ladderlog packing Queen!! The fastest Ladderlog packer in the (north) west!
