Frequently Asked Questions

What Is A Podium Used For, When Should I Use It?

A podium is a low-level step with an enclosed platform which is used for working at height for longer durations. Ladders are only suitable for short duration tasks of no longer than 30minutes, which means if the task in hand is going to take longer than this, a more fixed and enclosed means of access is recommended. Still unsure what products are suitable for the job we've put together a guide with the difference between podiums and podium step ladders.

Do I Need Training To Use A Podium Step?

Training is not strictly required in order to use a podium step however as with all working at height equipment it is advisable. PASMA are the training body for the safe use of towers and podium steps. For more information on PASMA training and podium steps check out our blog post on Podium steps.

How often should podium steps be inspected?

We’d recommend inspecting podium steps at the same frequency as ladders. Depending on how often you use it, you should get it inspected at 3, 6 or 12 month intervals. Always ensure that podium steps are checked before each use in case damage has been caused when moving or transporting the items.

Can Podium Steps Topple Over?

Yes. Excessive sideways forces may cause the podium step to overturn or the wheels to slip. Never lean anything against the podium step such as ladders or materials and never climb up the outside of the guardrail. Purchasing podium steps certified to BS8620 will prevent the risk of podiums overturning providing they are being used correctly.

What are Podium Steps?

Podium steps are a low-level access solution which are built with large, enclosed platforms to prevent the risk of falling. Podium steps are chosen for work taking place over a longer duration than ladders.
