Falls from height continue to be the most common cause of injury and fatalities in the workplace with ladders being responsible for one-third of all accidents. Falls from height can occur for many reasons, for example;
- The wrong equipment being selected and used.
- The equipment being used incorrectly.
- The equipment isn’t being checked for damages which could affect its performance.
Before using any equipment for working at height the user should carry out pre-checks which include checking the stiles, feet, rungs, locking bars and platform for damages and defects. It is also recommended that full inspections are carried out every 3, 4 or 6 months depending on the frequency of use.
In order to comply with the Working at Height Regulations of 2005, you must ensure “The equipment used for work at height is properly inspected and maintained.” There are two ways that you can guarantee your equipment is properly inspected on a regular basis.
Option One: Get A Member Of Our Expert Team To Inspect Your Equipment
We now offer a service in which we visit you and your team on-site and inspect all working at height equipment. We will tag all equipment with our Ladder Log Inspection System and compile a full report for your records. It isn’t always necessary to have damaged equipment condemned, in some cases all you may require is a spare part which we can provide and even fit on site.
We have an experienced team of ladder industry professionals who carry out Ladder Inspections to the high standard of the British Ladder Association. A number of our experienced team have completed Ladder Association accredited courses which enables them to confidently inspect and use ladders. Our team of inspectors includes our operations director Gill Robinson who is also the Vice-Chair of the Ladder Association Training Committee.

Option Two: Complete Our Ladder
Association Accredited, Ladder User & Inspectors Course
In some cases, a site visit may be inconvenient for you and if you would prefer to have somebody in house to carry out your inspections the Ladder User & Inspectors Course is something you should definitely consider. The Ladder User and Inspectors Course is accredited by the Ladder Association and covers a range of topics, the course agenda focuses on current legislation, safety, ladder inspections and correct usage. The course is then completed with a multiple-choice test paper. Upon completion, the delegate will receive a Ladder Association Photo ID card and certificate enabling them to confidently inspect your ladders on-site.
