Privacy & Security

We know that you may have concerns about shopping on the internet. Our web site uses a secure server which implements secure sockets layer (SSL) technology in our on-line ordering process to protect your payment card information. Every transaction that is processed by our specialist payment processor - SagePay, is also checked by our fraud control team to validate the authenticity and validity of your payment card as well as indicators of possible fraudulent use. In the unlikely event of fraudulent or unauthorised use of your debit or credit card by someone else to purchase goods from our website, we will refund to you any money that we have received as a result.

At we do not store any of your payment details online, in fact, we don't even see them. Instead, we let the experts process your payments - SagePay, the UK's largest processor of secure, real-time, online credit and debit card transactions. As a dedicated processor of online payments, their security systems are second to none. It means that when you are entering your payment details you can do so safely in the knowledge that your online security is being handled directly by a SagePay server.

SagePay meets and exceeds all industry security standards. They are vetted yearly by the credit card schemes and meet PCI (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) standards and are also accredited to the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management standards.

When you shop with at you can be assured that your card details are securely encrypted during transport over the Internet so no one can access your card information. The card details are only transported to a Bank to authorise your purchase.

What is a Secure Payment Server? Does Ladderstore have one?

To provide security for your online purchases on our web site, we have chosen the secure online payment ensured by SagePay. The secure payment system technology SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) allows you to process, through an SSL-compliant browser such as Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, an end-to-end encrypted purchase transaction without fear of an intermediary obtaining your credit card information.

When you are asked to provide your credit/debit card details you should see on the bottom of your browser an unbroken key or locked padlock indicating you are in a secure transaction mode. You are then communicating with a secure server that has direct access into the UK banking gateways, which allows instant authorisation of credit/debit cards. This system allows the hosting of a secure form on secure servers.

The credit card information is securely encrypted and communicated via the Internet to one of SagePay's gateway servers, which links immediately to the appropriate bank to request authorisation. All transactions that pass credit card number validity checks are sent to the bank for authorisation.

What about encryption?

All communication within the system is strongly encrypted using 2048-bit RSA encryption with variable 168-bit session keys (i.e. each transaction uses a new key). This is significantly (many billions of times) more secure than standard browser SSL security provided by, e.g. Internet Explorer. SagePay encryption is also much more secure than that specified for the SET (Secure Electronic Transaction) protocol. The high level of encryption used is forecast as not being a requirement until the year 2015. The encryption is of course totally transparent to our customers.
