EN131 Professional Extension Ladders

(36 products)

As you may now be aware EN131 Professional is replacing Class 1 which is typically what classification should be used on construction sites. EN131 Professional now covers both trade and industrial use, which means any business using extension ladders in their day to day work should purchase ladders conforming to this new classification when replacing their ladders.

If you are still unsure on what the new standards mean for your businesses access equipment you can find further information in our handy new standards guide or feel free to pick up the phone to our helpful and knowledgeable team.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN DIFFERENCE IN THE NEW STANDARDS?

Main changes to EN131 Professional extension ladders are that any extension or leaning ladders over 3m will have to be fit with a stabiliser bar as standard and under new standards more rigorous weight and torsion tests have been introduced. This page contains a large selection of EN131 Professional extension ladders in both aluminium and fibreglass from our most popular suppliers including Lyte and Youngman.

WHAT DOES EN131 MEAN?

EN131 is a European standard that covers portable steps and ladders. The EN131 standard gives manufacturers the minimum safety requirements that their products must meet. The EN131 standard has two classifications, EN131: Professional and EN131 Non-Professional. The professional classification is tested more vigorously and suited for work on industrial sites, or for trade and any other working environments. EN131 Non-Professional is strictly for DIY use only.

WHAT IS AN EN131 EXTENSION LADDER?

An EN131 Professional Extension ladder as the name suggests is an extension ladder that has been manufactured and tested to the EN131 Professional classification. This means that is it tested five times more than the non-professional classification over a longer period of time, making it perfect for heavy-duty use. As part of the EN131 standard, all extension ladders over 3m will have a stabiliser bar attached. Some manufacturers use a retractable stabiliser bar for more compact transportation.

WHEN SHOULD I USE AN EN131 EXTENSION LADDER?

EN131 extension ladders should be the only choice when purchasing any portable ladder. This classification ensures that all the safety requirements are met and the product is fit for purpose. There are a number of ladders on the market that do not meet this standard so take extra care when purchasing ladders from a number of online retailers.
