Have You thought of a Muted Colour?

Instead of using bright primary colours, opt for soothing shades and a restful palette of monochrome tones. Mild blue, lavender, or green tones, according to colour theory, are relaxing and soothing. Rich jewel tones contribute to a sense of cosiness and comfort. Toasted browns, luscious pomegranate, and topaz are just a few examples. Use muted versions of your favourite colours in the bedroom. Allowing you to show off your taste and style while still keeping your room calm and relaxing.

Do Not Disregard The Ceiling

The ceiling is the fifth wall of a room. When you lie in bed, do you notice a bland, blank surface? Use a gentle colour or a simple pattern. The ceiling should be a lighter shade of the same colour as the walls. This will visually lower the ceiling and make the space feel more intimate and comfortable.

To ensure your safety when working at height for extended periods of time, we recommend using a podium step. Looking up for an extended period of time while performing a task such as painting the ceiling can cause many people to become unsteady on their feet, so having a protective barrier around you is critical when working at height.

Make use of architectural elements such as beams, mouldings, and decorative paint treatments. If you don't want to paint your ceiling, you could try using a canopy or a tented bed with a hanging dressing to add texture, pattern, and colour to what would be your 'ceiling' when you're laying in bed, or you could even hang a moulded medallion and a crystal or delicate shade chandelier above you to add colour, pattern, and texture without going all out.

 Choosing The Right Furniture

It's natural to change your mind when decorating a bedroom for the first time, and that's perfectly fine! However, unless you know exactly what you want, avoid buying anything that is clearly suited to one style and instead use smaller, less expensive ways to incorporate that design into your room. Essentially, keep your more expensive pieces, such as your bed and any larger storage pieces, neutral so that they can work with any aesthetic.

When you're ready to buy bedroom furniture, start with a floor plan and a measured drawing of the space. Furniture, especially bedroom furniture, should complement the space in which it is placed. Avoid a large, bulky bed and dresser in a small bedroom. If the ceiling is high, a tall headboard will help to visually bring it down to scale.

If your bedroom is large, choose furniture that fits it. Place a chair and ottoman, or another piece of furniture, at the foot of the bed. Furniture and accessories that are too small will look out of place in a large room.

 Storage Space

Keep things out of sight to add to the tranquility of a bedroom. The room will appear larger and more serene.

Select a large bedside table with drawers or doors to keep books, lotion, and reading glasses close at hand but out of sight. We would recommend using a variety of different storage units, preferably at different heights to keep the eye line interested, but nothing too tall and overbearing to avoid making the room feel small and closed in. A built-in unit or wardrobe is an exception in that the doors can be painted to match or complement the colour of the walls, allowing them to blend in rather than stand out.

step stool is an excellent piece of equipment for reaching the top of your closet or shelves; we recommend that everyone keep a small slimline folding step stool in their home so that they can easily reach items in their collection or an extra cookbook at the top of the shelf. Having a folding step stool prevents you from having to overreach yourself or reading the item from a chair, both of which could result in you injuring yourself.

Excess sheets, blankets, and pillows can be stored in a trunk or a storage bench at the foot of the bed, to keep them close by for easy access but out of sight to avoid making your room look cluttered.

Keep item organised and free of dust by using clear slimline plastic storage boxes to store items that your do not need often under your bed.

Lighting

Because you'll be spending the majority of your time in your bedroom at night, lighting is an important consideration when decorating. Lighting does not have to be purely functional; it can also be decorative and enhance the overall appearance of the space.

When deciding on the type of lighting to use, consider how you use different areas of the room. You'll probably need a bedside light to read by, as well as an overhead light for the entire room and a few lights scattered around to create a lovely glow.

If you want your lighting to be warm and soothing, use warm bulbs and light-dispersing shades. Dimmable switches are also useful in bedrooms if your budget allows. Consider whether you want your lighting to be a focal point in your room, as shown here with the exquisite rattan pendants, or more subtle, as shown here with the modest wall lights.

Linens

Because the bed is the focal point of the room, bedding and throw pillows are essential components of any bedroom decor. Begin with a simple foundation colour for your bedding, such as white, cream, grey, pastels, deep blue, or even black, and layer from there. Add a blanket for texture and throw pillows that you can easily replace as the seasons change or your style evolves.

Window Area

In a bedroom, curtains are always a good idea. You can always add a blind underneath to block out more light, but curtains are ideal for the bedroom due to their softness. If you prefer a more casual look, choose a flowy, gauzy fabric; if you prefer a more luxurious look, choose velvet. Take into account the length as well. If space allows, go floor to ceiling to add height to the space and make it appear more opulent.

When hanging curtains, we recommend using a platform step ladder with a tool tray. We recommend a platform step ladder specifically because the platform provides extra stability and space for your feet to stand, making you more comfortable than standing on only rungs, and the tool tray allows you to have extra tools and spare nails and screws on hand if you need them without having to keep them in your pocket and realising you don't have enough. It is important to remember, however, that you should always take a 30-minute break from using the ladder.
