Karina Space Saving Stair Case

The Karina's ingenious supporting structure allows you a lot of flexibility in the installation. Essentially, the Karina comprises of a series of treads and supports which can be used to make a stair of varying designs, and with the additional tread kits of various heights. They can be set straight or with a clockwise or anti-clockwise 'wind'. The treads are shaped so as to give you the maximum landing space for your foot while being staggered to make them as compact as possible. The result is a flexible staircase that you can fit into the tightest of spaces. The structure, made of steel interlocking elements is available in black, white or grey and the polished beech wood treads come with a light (natural) or dark dye finish. A sturdy side railing is supplied as standard and a second is available where the staircase is not being installed next to a wall or other retaining feature. The base attachment and 'header' attachment can be mounted into wood or concrete (the anchors for concrete are supplied as standard).

To complete your installation you can also choose to have a matching balcony, or balustrade kit delivered. This includes a handrail, 10 balusters (spindles) and fittings to 'fence' off the upper floor. The kit can be fitted straight or circular, depending on the opening. Simply measure the length, straight or circular, that you need and order the appropriate number of kits. Each kit can cover 120cm in length and is 95cm high.

A Note About Complying with Building Regulations
In order for these types of spiral staircases to comply with Building Regulations they must comply with British Standard BS5395 part II (The Code of Practice for the Design of Helical & Spiral Stairs 1984). This key point being that stairs with open risers likely to be used by children under five should be built so that a 100mm sphere cannot pass through the open risers. The same regulation applies to the balusters - described in the regulations as the 'guarding'. In order for the stairs to fully comply we recommend that you choose the optional 'UK Riser Bar' kit when buying your stairs. This includes a set of bars that are fitted between the risers to ensure compliance with the regulations.
