Semi-Rigid Portable Fire Escape Ladder - 3.0 m
Most people want to feel safe and steady when climbing down a ladder from a top floor window. Most rope and chain style ladders can swing and sway giving an unsettling feeling. Not really what you want in the midst of an emergency. These ladders address this problem by replacing the traditional rope or chain style of manufacture with a series of innovative interlocking sections that are designed to lock semi-rigid so that you won't sway or swing through passing windows as you descend.
This makes the ladders extremely safe especially if an adult is helping, or carrying, a young child on the way down. Combined with the stand offs that each steel rung has the business of getting down fast becomes much, much easier. The stand offs stop the ladder getting too close to the wall so that you can get a firm footing on the flat rungs safely as you climb down.
Key to the ladders safe use is securing the clamping, or mounting of the ladder hook at the point of exit. Unlike many other fire escape ladders the Semi-Rigid escape ladders clamps onto the wall below the window instead of the sill or window frame. The hook is adjustable and is designed to clamp over a water radiator, for a much more secure descent. The hooks can adjust to accomodate wall thicknesses of up to 20 inches (just over 50cm).
The ladders can be set up in seconds in the case of an emergency. They are simply positioned over the wall below the window and release by pulling a cord. the ladders are designed to fall down into place allowing you to make your exit.
When rolled up the ladders are compact and light so it is straightforward to store them in a wardrobe or under a bed. On average the ladders are approx 30cm x 50cm when folded for storage.
The semi-rigid fire escape ladders are manufactured in the UK to a superior standard using zinc-plated mild steel tubing and have been independently tested to withstand a distributed load of 454 kg (71 st).
