Tower Safety - Staying Safe When Using Towers

Tower Safety Blog Header

When the time has come to choose a mobile tower or scaffold tower, safety must become a priority. In recent years accidents from non-compliant towers have been on the rise and therefore the trade body for mobile access towers is set to boost height safety this year.

In the period 2012/2013, falls from height were the most common cause of fatalities, accounting for almost a third of fatal injuries to workers (31%).

There are a number of incidents in which falls could have been prevented with the use of a safer tower. For example, a bricklayer in Lincoln was paralysed after a fall from a non-compliant, second-hand tower, assembled by an untrained builder.

Non-Compliant towers are sometimes made from loose scaffolding or homemade (DIY) platforms. These towers are extremely dangerous and they do not conform to the European standard BS EN 1004.

If you are waiting for an answer to the question, how do I know if my tower is safe? The answer is simple; ensure that your tower complies with EN 1004. If you do not use a tower that complies with EN 1004 you are risking your own life or the life of someone else whenever the equipment is used.
